Foster arranges for her escape with the aid of "Granny" Ramsey in hope that she will lead him to Randall. The plan is snarled when another girl prisoner with her infant joins the escape and Angel slips away. She manages to meet Randall, and, when he slaps her, she realizes that all she has heard about him is true.

- Johnny Adams arrives in a brutal prison under an assumed name after deliberately framing himself in order to kill White, a captain of the guards, because he had beaten Johnny's father to death. Rev. Thomas Stoner, also newly arrived, is the new prison chaplain, opposed by Schafer, the prison warden. Stoner learns of Johnny's intentions and dissuades him from following his plan, but when convict "Blackie" Drew kills White, Johnny is blamed.
- The action takes place in occupied Czechoslovak Republic after assassination of Schutzstaffel (SS)-Obergruppenführer and General der Polizei Reinhard Heydrich, acting Reichsprotektor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia In Prague on 27 May 1942. Jirka is the boy whose family was murdered in the village of Lidice as repercussions for the assassination of Heydrich. He stays with his uncle - engineer Petr Lom. Marta - a young girl leaving next door, working at the post office helps to take care of the boy. Lom has just started working on the military airport, governed by Sudeten-Nazi named Ullman. Resistance is quite active in the airport, collecting arms and grenades and communicating with allies, sometimes doing some small diversion. They have a lot of great intel thanks to secretary Jana Tomesowa, who is trustee of Ullman and has access to a lot of restricted informations. Jirka also starts to help at the airport, but he's filled with sorrow and need of revenge. He's caught stealing grenade and arrested by gestapo. Later he's shot. When Jana sees it she faints, and Ullman finds some secret message she had with her. He tells he has found something to his gestapo friends and goes to the warehouse to investigate it himself. In there he's killed by resistance, by being pushed onto transformer. Gestapo starts arresting and searching houses of airport workers, and it turns out that Marta is working with Germans as informer. Lom doesn't know that yet, he's struck by Jirkas death. He picks the gun from his hideout and walks back to the airport. The neighbours tell him truth about Marta. Lom kills her and helps Jana escape. Germans gather airport workers and threaten to kill them all if noone says who killed Ullman. Then Lom appears saying he did it and killing men from gestapo who killed Jirka. He's killed by the soldiers. Workers go back to work. In last scene, dying Lom has vision of the future. He sees woman with gun (symbolizing Chechoslovakia) going forward with war attrocities around her. However she doesn't stop until the war is over and Czechoslovak flag appears on mast.

To get rid of him they make a bridge of their ironing-board. On this he escapes through a window into another flat. The morning after Augusta receives her answer to a position in an office of two attorneys. She makes such a good impression upon Mr. Speck, one of the attorneys, that she secures a position. Here she undergoes the same annoyances that she has received before, which only ends when she knocks the office manager down. This causes him the loss of his position. She is now promoted to his position and requests that her former position be given to her sister, Ethel. Mr. Speck consents. Ethel makes a hit with the office clerk. Clarence Hallroom, a confirmed bachelor. He and Ethel make eyes at one another and are intercepted by Augusta, who asserts her authority and puts a stop to the lovemaking. One day Carl returns from his vacation to his work, and is recognized as the ironing-board tourist. The beauty of Augusta has made a profound impression on him but in seeking to obtain from her a corresponding feeling he receives a rebuff. He decides to teach her a lesson. He arouses her jealousy by a flirtation with Ethel. Augusta resigns her position and leaves and compels poor Ethel to leave with her. Clarence cannot forget her and seeks an excuse to call upon her. Freed from the grim censorship of Augusta, they shortly come to an understanding. A little later Augusta, now returning to her home, receives a call from Waldeck. As she will not admit him by the door, he enters the apartment through the window by means of the ironing-board. His eloquence sweeps away the last vestiges of her old-time man-hate, and she also becomes engaged. That very same day the charming Clara joins the ranks of the brides-to-be becoming engaged to Dr. Squibb.
